Dr. Miles Nichols is a functional medicine doctor specializing in Lyme, mold illness, gut, thyroid, and autoimmunity. After Dr Miles personally struggled with chronic fatigue in his early 20’s, Dr Miles dedicated himself to figure out the root causes. He suffered with and recovered from thyroid dysfunction, autoimmunity, a gut infection, Lyme co-infections, and mold illness. Dr Miles and Dr Diane Mueller co-authored “How to Use Your Mind to Heal Your Mold and Lyme” and “Stress Resilience”. They also founded the Medicine with Heart functional medicine clinic in Colorado as well as the Medicine with Heart Institute that trains other doctors in functional medicine. Dr Miles has been a featured speaker at national conferences, professional associations, podcasts, and summits. Approach to treating environmental illness: The Medicine with Heart Method is a step-by-step approach for dealing with environmental issues, chronic infections, gut dysfunction and more. We start with a comprehensive multi-system assessment to determine health impacts from environmental concerns. This includes labwork and questionnaires and a detailed case history. Then we initiate a care plan that factors in external environmental factors, supplementation, specific dietary recommendations, and 5 pillars of practices that have been shown in research to aid in limbic system rebalancing, vagus nerve reset, detoxification, mood regulation, and anti-inflammation. A few key lab markers and questionnaires are picked for progress tracking throughout the care process and will be re-tested at specific intervals in order to gauge the progress through through phases of care. After biotoxin accumulation and infectious burden are reduced, repairing damage and restoring the brain and hormone function lead to restored energy and greater future resilience towards environmental exposures.
